Cabbage (It's not just for coleslaw!)

Cabbage or headed cabbage (comprising several cultivars of Brassica oleracea) is a leafy green, red (purple), or white (pale green) biennial plant grown as an annual vegetable crop for its dense-leaved heads. Our packs have over 350 seeds and around 6200 per ounce. This cold tolerant plant can be grown almost all year. We recommend succession planting on this one as well as transplanting; we use the blanket seeding into a raised bed method. It's a good idea to grow a red and a green type so your family and your farmers market customers can have a change from week to week. If you live in USDA Gardening Zone 7b or higher, you should be able to grow this food staple year round outdoors with no protection.  In zone 6a and 6b, you will need protection. Happy growing!!!

 Try growing several varieties at different times of the year.  The stores only have around 4 varieties on the shelves we carry almost 20.   One for every occasion and season. 

 

 

 Here's some basic growing ideas to get you going 

Cabbage is ok with there roots being messed with 

So you can use plug trays. Without any issues

  You will need to cover them with about a 1/2 max of soil 

And keep them moist.  Will germinate in 4 to 7 days  grow em for about a month and your ready to plant em outside

 Space your rows about 2 feet apart and 1 foot apart in the rows.
